IMPORTANT: Before applying to adopt or place a dog through SPDR, click here to go to our Unrepresented Breeds list. WE DO NOT CURRENTLY HANDLE THE BREEDS ON THIS LIST. If you have a dog to place and its breed is on our unrepresented list, or a breed you wish to adopt is on the list, we cannot help you at this time. You may check back periodically to see if the breed has become represented. If you don't want to wait, we suggest you use a search engine to locate a local breed club, or a representative from your breed's national rescue for help. The following link will take you to a list of national rescue contacts for most AKC-recognized breeds: National Breed Club Rescue Network .

Adoption: Please contact us using any of the information provided above. You will be asked to read and complete the Terms Of Adoption and Adoption Application which will ask why you want a dog, how you plan to provide care, and what kind of home you will provide. There is a $5.00 non-refundable fee for the application to be processed. SPDR will forward the terms of adoption and application forms to the appropriate breed rep for approval. Applicants for dogs may be declined if the breed rep feels they cannot provide a suitable home for the dog they are applying for. You should expect to hear from a breed rep within 7-10 days of applying. Please remember that we serve ONLY the Puget Sound Area of Washington State, USA.

Owners adopting dogs are under no obligation to accept any dog referred by SPDR. If you feel a dog is not right for you, simply notify the breed rep. He/she will continue to refer applicants which might be suitable until the right match is found.

SPDR can in no way guarantee an immediate placement. Adopters should expect to spend some time working with the breed rep to find the best dog for them.

SPDR charges a non-refundable $5.00 processing fee, to help cover immediate costs. However, if we are successful in helping you adopt a dog, we strongly encourage a further, tax-deductible donation. SPDR is a non-profit organization and depends on such donations to continue operating. You can print out the adoption application from the link below and mail it to SPDR. Be sure to include $5.00 for processing.

To place a dog with SPDR, call (206) 654-1117 or fill out the listing form and mail to SPDR using the information provided above.
